Children’s Education and Activities

The children's education program at First Presbyterian Church is for children pre-school through 6th grade.  This ministry exists to provide the children of our congregation and in our community the tools they need to develop a faith in Jesus Christ, a desire to accept His teachings as a way of  daily living, and a love for Him that will remain through-out their lifetime.  We offer an excellent curriculum taught by caring teachers and leaders who believe it is their privilege to share the lessons of our Christian heritage with the children.

Preschool & Kindergarten Program

  1. Enthusiasm and excitement abounds while the children are actively involved in learning how wonderful God is and the grace and love that is given to them through Jesus Christ.

  2. The curriculum currently being used is Godly Play. It is a way of being in worship with young children, by experiencing God, not just learning about Him. It is a visual, oral and kinesthetic way of telling the stories of the bible by using props and asking the children open-ended questions. The children have the chance to respond to the stories through different mediums of art.

  3. The lessons focus on who God is, the love He has for us through His Son Jesus, and how He wants us to be within ourselves and with others.

  4. They sing, they create, they learn, and they have fun.

Workshop Rotation Model

  1. Sunday School just isn’t what it used to be for children in grades K-4th. The Workshop Rotation Model of Christian education immerses children into an educational curriculum that is alive and engaging. Students will experience God’s Word not just read or hear it. Children have a variety of interests, skills, and abilities and learn best through a variety of styles. Our program is designed to meet their needs.

  2. Each rotation concentrates on a specific topic to be taught in a variety of ways over several weeks. Children meet in age-appropriate groups and rotate to a different workshop each week where they are involved in organized, constructive, and enjoyable educational lessons.

  3. On a given Sunday, students will become involved in the lesson as they find themselves experimenting with science, making creative art projects, practicing a drama, presenting a puppet show, stirring up something special in the kitchen, sharing Bible stories and scripture, playing lessons-centered games, or working with a computer program designed around the current theme.

  4. All workshops give children hands-on participation that enhances their learning potential. Most importantly, a child’s ability to understand, retain, and then share the stories of the Bible and their meaning are greatly increased!
